Gwarnic is an online art and framing business in Malta, named after the Maltese word for a frame. It sells framed photography prints, posters, original paintings, digital art and ceramics by local artists, and also takes custom framing and commission requests. Enquiries go through the VisitMalta.co.uk form on this page.

Gwarnic is a Maltese online art shop built around one idea: that choosing wall art should be easy and that it should look good on arrival. The name is the Maltese word for a frame, and the range runs from fine art photography prints and posters to original paintings, digital art and hand-painted ceramics.

It is listed on VisitMalta.co.uk under both art galleries in Malta and gift shops in Malta, which suits visitors who want a lasting piece of the islands to take home as well as residents dressing a new wall.

Who is behind Gwarnic

Gwarnic was launched in 2019 by two friends of more than 25 years, Andrew and Bryan. Andrew is a professional photographer who works in finance, and Bryan is a software engineer. They noticed that there was no single place to browse modern wall art in Malta, and built one.

The shop works with local photographers and artists and keeps adding new material, with a long roster that includes photographers, painters, illustrators and digital artists. Artists and photographers who want to collaborate are invited to get in touch. If you are setting up a home on the island, our Malta relocation guide covers the practical side, and a framed local print is a natural finishing touch.

What you can buy

The shop is organised into collections. Malta posters and Malta photography show island scenes and coastal views, aerial photography looks down on coastlines, harbours and historic landscapes, and underwater photography captures the blue tones beneath Maltese waters. If you have been exploring places such as Valletta and its streets, the Three Cities or the silent city of Mdina, there is a good chance a print will remind you of them.

Other collections include original paintings by Maltese artists, reproductions of work by Christopher Saliba and Diane Agius Calleja, digital art inspired by island architecture, textured acrylic pieces, nursery art, boho, vintage, abstract and eclectic posters, figurative photography and ceramics with a warm Sicilian character. For ideas on where the coast photography was taken, see our guide to the best beaches in Malta.

Framing, commissions and sourcing

Each framed print is made with solid wood frames from FSC certified wood, conservation grade glass with 99 per cent UV protection, and cotton, acid-free mount boards and backing, so that the artwork does not yellow or warp. Custom framing covers bespoke sizes, frame colours and finishes, mount colours, double or triple mounts and non-reflective glass.

Beyond the shop, Gwarnic takes commissions, including custom digital artwork, original paintings in a chosen style and size, and portraits. It also sources art for individuals, businesses such as offices and hotels, and designers or architects, and can print and frame your own family or travel photos or design a cluster of frames as a gallery wall. Customers can send a photo of an empty space and receive a render showing how it would look, and larger projects can include an on-site visit. Orders of more than three prints or frames qualify for a special price.

Ordering, delivery and getting in touch

Framed prints are ready to post within 14 days of ordering and arrive within three business days of shipping, with urgent orders handled on request. Because printing and framing begin straight away, orders cannot be cancelled, and any damage should be reported by claim. Replies to enquiries are normally sent within 24 hours, and the team is happy to advise on sizes and framing options before you order.

Gwarnic is an online business, so if you are visiting from the UK you can browse before you travel and have work delivered in Malta or Gozo; our Gozo guide and things to do in Malta will help plan the trip. Use the VisitMalta.co.uk enquiry form on this page and we will pass your message to Gwarnic.
