Services, hours and details last checked against HSBC Qormi's own published information.
HSBC Qormi is a branch of HSBC Bank Malta in the town of Qormi, in the centre of Malta. It gives personal customers face-to-face help with current and savings accounts, home loans, cards, insurance and investments, alongside the bank's online and phone services. You can send an enquiry to the branch through the VisitMalta.co.uk form on this page.
HSBC Qormi is one of the local branches of HSBC Bank Malta plc, the Maltese arm of the global HSBC group. Qormi sits in the middle of the island, a short drive from Valletta, Birkirkara and the business parks around the town's Central Business District, which is also where the bank keeps its HSBC Banking Centre on Mill Street. For people living or working in the central towns, the branch is a convenient place to sit down with a member of staff rather than handle everything online.
The bank sells a full range of everyday and longer-term products in Malta, and the branch is where many of them are discussed in person. On VisitMalta.co.uk it appears in our directory of banks in Malta, where you can compare it with other lenders on the island.
What you can do at the branch
Several services are designed to be handled at a branch. You can change the address on your account, send money abroad at the rate applying on the day, and report a card payment you want to dispute by speaking to the team face to face. Insurance customers can also visit to update a protection policy, alter the Direct Debit that pays for it, cancel cover, or fill in a claim notification form and hand over supporting documents.
Meetings with a Financial Planning Adviser or a Premier Relationship Manager usually take place by appointment. You request a slot, the bank phones you back, and a meeting is set at the branch you prefer. Complaints can be raised in English or Maltese, and if a matter remains unresolved it can go in writing to the Office of the Arbiter for Financial Services in Msida.
Accounts, cards and payments
Personal customers can choose between HSBC Premier, HSBC Advance, Advance for Graduates, the HSBC Student account, a standard Current Account and a Basic Bank Account, with a switching service for anyone moving their banking from another provider. Savings options include the HSBC Savings Account, an Online Savings Account and a Term Deposit Account.
Debit cards come in Premier, Advance, Student and International versions. The Premier card carries no HSBC charge for cash withdrawals at ATMs in Malta or abroad, although other banks may add their own fee, and it includes travel insurance and purchase protection. New and replacement cards normally arrive by post within seven working days. For overseas payments the bank offers foreign exchange, international currency accounts and Global View and Global Transfers. When someone sends you money from the UK there is no sort code to give: you share your IBAN and HSBC Malta's BIC, MMEBMTMT. If you are planning a move, our guide to relocating to Malta from the UK covers opening a local account in context.
Home loans and borrowing
The Classic Home Loan is aimed at buyers at any stage, from a first flat to a second home. Subject to lending criteria, it can cover up to 90% of the value of a main residence and up to 75% for a second property. The processing fee is waived, but other charges still apply: a legal fee of €200, a booking fee of €100, €41.70 for updating searches, €30 for checking the hypothec after the deed and €300 for the bank's architect. Applicants need proof of income, a Maltese identity or residence card, the preliminary agreement and an architect's valuation, plus life cover and buildings insurance.
The range also includes a Buy-to-let Loan and a HomeOwner Loan, together with personal, car, home improvement, student and energy efficiency loans, overdrafts and Premier, Advance, Mastercard and Visa credit cards.
