Meditation Malta teaches Sahaja Yoga meditation through free weekly classes in St Paul's Bay, every Friday evening, and through live guided meditations online every day. It is open to complete beginners and to people who already meditate. Send your question through the VisitMalta.co.uk enquiry form on this page and we will pass it to the group.
Meditation Malta is the local group teaching Sahaja Yoga, a meditation method that is offered entirely free of charge. It suits visitors who would like a calm evening during a stay on the north-east coast, as well as residents and new arrivals who want a regular practice, because the weekly class is in person and there are guided sessions online every day.
On VisitMalta.co.uk you will find the group in our directory of meditation centres in Malta, alongside other places to find stillness on the island.
Weekly classes in St Paul's Bay
The in-person class takes place every Friday from 19:30 to 21:00 in St Paul's Bay, where the aim is to learn how to awaken your inner energy through a simple guided process. No physical exercises, special postures or particular clothing are needed, and you can sit on a chair or a carpeted floor. Meetings are run by experienced practitioners and cost nothing.
Registering your interest is optional, since you do not need to sign up to attend any session, but it lets the group keep in touch by email and WhatsApp. St Paul's Bay is a busy holiday area, so many visitors are staying nearby; our guides to hotels in Qawra and St Paul's Bay and where to stay in Malta help you choose a base. Nearby attractions include boat trips from Buġibba, the Abyss Diving Club and Aquamarine Watersports in Buġibba Square.
Daily live meditations online
If you cannot get to a Friday class, or you are back in the UK, the group streams live guided meditations every day on YouTube, Facebook and Zoom. These collective sessions include clearing and balancing exercises, talks and a discussion on a topic of the day, and they suit complete beginners as well as regular meditators. Zoom sessions are interactive, so you can chat privately with a presenter if you have a question.
A round-the-clock stream of guided meditations, talks and music is also available, along with a library of video and audio meditations, music for meditation, printed guides and podcasts that you can stream or download for free.
A quick start to the practice
The group suggests a three-step beginning. First, follow a short guided video by the founder, placing your right hand on energy centres on the left side of the body while repeating silent affirmations, a process called Self-Realisation. Second, meditate for about ten minutes a day: sit comfortably with hands open on your lap, remove your shoes if you can, breathe quietly, keep your attention above your head and let thoughts pass. Third, build up to ten or fifteen minutes daily and use the free meditation guide and multimedia areas to learn more.
Meditation here means a state of mental silence in which you are fully alert but free of unnecessary worries, reached by focusing on the present moment. The group also invites you to a short two-minute and three-minute meditation online if you want to try the experience before committing to a full evening.
About the method and its founder
Sahaja Yoga was created by Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi in 1970 and is now taught in over one hundred countries, always without charge. She had studied medicine before developing the method, and her central teaching is that everyone carries a potential that can be awakened to bring peace and wellbeing to individuals, families and communities. Because the same practice is taught worldwide, UK meditators will find it familiar if they have attended a class at home.
If you are planning a longer stay, our relocation guide for UK movers and Malta weather guide are useful, and the best beaches in Malta make a good complement to an evening class. To ask about the group, use the VisitMalta.co.uk enquiry form on this page and we will pass your message on.
