SUB Studios is a professional home recording studio in Naxxar, in the middle of Malta, owned and run by David Grech. It began in 2013 in the corner of a laundry room in his childhood home, where he wanted to experiment with sounds and produce tracks for his band, The Busker. It has since grown into a studio that works with local bands, solo artists and some of the island's best-known brands.

David Grech and the studio's story
David is a musician who spent many years as bassist in The Busker before becoming a producer and sound engineer. He is known for turning an idea into a polished track, and for teaching himself new hardware, plug-ins and software so that his clients get the best possible sound. Besides music he occasionally does graphic and web design and runs an online retail business with his wife.
The studio has produced several chart-topping tracks. Artists it has worked with include the local bands The Busker, Auntie's Yellow Sofa and The Plakard Project, and the solo artists MATT BLXCK, Kersten Graham, Cora Elizabeth and Dav.Jr. Recent releases for Tara Formosa in 2024 and 2025 were produced, recorded, mixed and mastered at the studio.
The recording space and equipment
The studio consists of a good-sized vocal booth that can hold up to two people at the same time, and a control room fitted with high-quality equipment. The software is Studio One 5, and the hardware includes a Universal Audio Solo/610 preamp and an Empirical Labs Distressor EL8-X compressor, two respected pieces of studio gear.
Most artist projects cover the full chain: production, recording, mixing and mastering. In some cases the studio handles only vocal recording or recording and mixing.
