The Exterminator

The Exterminator by Orkin is a Maltese pest control business whose flagship store and offices are at The Service Hub in Naxxar. It combines professional treatments for homes, businesses and public bodies with an online shop selling do it yourself kits, baits and traps, and it delivers across both Malta and Gozo.

That mix is helpful for UK readers. If you have a pest problem in a Maltese home, a rented flat or a small business, you can book a professional, or tackle a minor problem yourself with a kit that is posted to your door.

Who is behind the brand

The business is built around Arnold Sciberras, known as the Exterminator, a professional pest control consultant who deals with domestic, industrial, agricultural and environmental problems. He is a naturalist, so natural ingredients are used where possible while keeping treatments effective and avoiding harm to non target species.

The brand combines scientific research with more than two decades of professional service, and a good deal of time goes into scientific publications and public education about pest control in the Maltese islands. The company represents Orkin in Malta; Orkin was founded in 1901 by fourteen year old Otto Orkin and is a major name in pest control worldwide. It is part of the DegiogioVassallo Ventures group and trades as Pext Ltd.

Professional pest control services

Residential treatments protect homes against ants, cockroaches and rats using environmentally friendly techniques. Commercial services are aimed at keeping workplaces clean and helping businesses follow health rules. Government pest control serves public organisations that need consistent treatment to demanding standards. Bird control solutions deter birds without harming them, to limit property damage and health concerns.

There is also a fast response service for urgent infestations, and a dedicated emergency contact. Wasp and Oriental hornet control is a speciality: the team removes nests from trees, roof edges, balconies and sheds, and prevention plans and seasonal treatments are available. Hornet activity peaks in the warmer months, so our Malta weather guide is a sensible read when planning a summer stay.

Appointments are made through a Book Now option on the website.

DIY kits, baits and traps

The online shop lists dozens of products, grouped by crawling insects, flying insects, rodent control, wasp and hornet control, bird control, bed bugs, repellents and air fragrance. The best known is the DIY Home Pest Control Kit, which includes an electronic spray gun, two 5 litre application bags, two 100 ml bottles of crawling insect pesticide, disposable gloves and a leaflet. A bundle of the starter kit, a refill and a free fly trap is offered at €54, a saving of €11.

ExterGel is a German cockroach gel bait, applied in small dots, about the size of a grain of rice, in cracks, crevices, behind appliances and along skirting boards. The instructions advise checking after one to two weeks and reapplying if the gel has been eaten or dried out, and keeping treated areas clean and dry. Always follow the label and keep products out of reach of children and pets.

Delivery covers Malta and Gozo. Orders are usually dispatched within one to two working days, and orders over €50 qualify for free delivery. Unopened kits in their original packaging can be returned within fourteen days of delivery; if a kit arrives damaged or incomplete, contact the shop within seven days. Opened items cannot be returned because they contain pesticide.

Where to buy and how to find the shop

The flagship store is in Naxxar, a hilltop town in the north of the main island, not far from the walled city described in our Mdina guide and a reasonable drive from the capital, Valletta. A store locator also lists independent ironmongers and pet shops across Malta and Gozo that stock the DIY kit and ExterGel.

Gozo stockists include shops in Xewkija and Rabat, so our Gozo guide is useful if you are staying there. Browse our things to do in Malta page for ideas once the problem is dealt with.
