Brian Rolè is a professional magician who has made a living from live performance since 1997. He is based in San Gwann, Malta, and works across Malta and Gozo at weddings, company events, trade shows, hotels, theatres and private celebrations. His style is interactive: he adapts the act to the room, the audience and the occasion, so the same magician can work a drinks reception, a seated dinner or a theatre stage.

On VisitMalta.co.uk he appears in our directories of entertainment in Malta and event planners in Malta, a useful starting point if you are putting together an event and want to see who can provide the entertainment.

A career in magic

Brian was born in Gozo and took up magic as a child, performing living-room shows for his family after a visiting uncle showed him a card trick that he still performs today. After a spell at school in London, where he spent his Saturday mornings in the city's magic shops, he joined the Malta Magicians' Society, known as IBM Ring 202, in the mid-1990s and has been a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians since 1997. That year he gave his first paid show, a children's party in Marsaxlokk.

A turning point came in 2000, when a contract to perform 35 shows at a large annual event in Villahermosa in Mexico gave him his first documented international engagement. He became a full-time professional magician in 2002. Along the way he has joined The Magic Circle in London, the Society of American Magicians and the Association de Magiciens Internationaux, where he became a board member in 2023, and he has served on the committee of the Malta Magicians' Society, including a term as president in 2004 and 2005.

His career includes awards for parlour and close-up magic and an IMS Merlin Award, received in June 2017 with his stage partner Lola Palmer, in recognition of their work. For UK readers who prefer a performer with a long track record, that history is the main reassurance on offer.

During the 2020 lockdowns, when live shows stopped, Brian moved online and gave virtual performances for the International Assembly of the Society of American Magicians, as well as a one-off live Halloween special of the Chamber of Mysteries. He continues to develop his craft through magic lectures and conferences, and by working with choreographers, directors and producers from other countries, which feeds back into the polish of his private and corporate bookings.

Close-up and parlour magic

Close-up magic is performed at arm's length for small groups or tables. Brian moves among guests at receptions, dinners, networking evenings and private events, using borrowed items and everyday objects, so people share the moment without interrupting the flow of the party. It is a popular choice when a room is too busy or too informal for a stage.

Parlour magic is a more focused performance of around 30 to 45 minutes for guests who sit and watch together. It suits private homes, smaller venues and other intimate gatherings where a stage is unnecessary but the audience wants to be able to follow every effect.

The reaction that drives the work is easy to describe: a borrowed ring or coin disappears from a guest's hand and turns up somewhere impossible, and a table of strangers is suddenly laughing together. That is why close-up magic is often booked for weddings, receptions and dinners where the host wants every guest to have a personal experience.

Stage magic, illusion and mentalism

For theatres, hotels, cruise ships and larger private or public events, Brian provides visual stage magic and illusion. Current stage shows generally run between 15 and 45 minutes and are watched from a defined performance area, which makes them easy to slot into the programme of a gala, an awards evening or a hotel entertainment night.

He also offers mentalism, with approximate formats of 10, 20 or 30 minutes. The performance includes apparent mind reading, predictions, choices and audience participation. A magic consultation service is available for creative, production and promotional projects, covering effect concepts and practical advice where the brief matches his experience.

Brian's stage work draws on a theatrical approach shaped by early drama classes and by the television magicians he admired growing up, combining humour with drama. For a venue manager, that means an act that can be adjusted to the stage, the sound and the audience on the night.

Corporate events and trade shows

Corporate magic is shaped around the event and the audience, whether the aim is to create conversation at a reception or provide a focused feature within a programme. Brian has performed in corporate and exhibition settings for names including SiGMA and Cashflows, which are familiar to anyone working in Malta's online gaming and payments sectors. Our iGaming in Malta guide explains why the island hosts so many of these trade shows.

At exhibitions the performance has a commercial job as well as an entertaining one. The approach follows four steps: attract, engage, message and handover. Magic gives passing delegates a reason to stop at the stand, the act carries a suitable company or product message, and the sales team then has a natural opening to continue the conversation. For companies planning a conference or incentive trip, a local magician is a sound way to make the event distinctive.

Weddings, private parties and family shows

Close-up magic can be woven into the quieter parts of a wedding day, including the drinks reception, the photographs and the seated celebration. Guests are entertained at their tables or in small groups, which helps people who do not know one another to start talking. If you are planning a wedding in Malta, you can pair the entertainment with flowers from Alistair Floral Design and photography from Anaca Photography, both in our directory.

Brian also performs at birthday parties and other private celebrations, and he offers Children's and Family Magic as a separate service from his adult and corporate shows. For children's party ideas beyond the magic, see Afterglow Events in our directory.

The Chamber of Mysteries dinner show

In 2011 Brian and Lola Palmer set up the Chamber of Mysteries, a dinner show that combines magic, illusion, mind reading, comedy and audience participation in a fixed evening. After interruptions during the pandemic years, it reopened and began welcoming regular guests again by June 2022. It is a good option for visitors who want a memorable night out in Malta rather than hiring a magician for a private event. Our guide to things to do in Malta shows how a dinner show fits into a longer stay.

Brian's most recent projects have included a series of weekly magic spots on a Maltese prime-time television programme over nine months and a show called the Time Traveller, produced for the 2025 edition of Notte Bianca in Malta. He also contributed an article to a book on the inner secrets of performance and audience perception, published by the Association de Magiciens Internationaux in November 2025. If you are choosing a base for an event weekend, our where to stay in Malta guide compares the main areas.

International work and how to book

Brian's engagements have taken him across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and North America. They include theatres, hotels, resorts, cruise ships, corporate functions and private events in places such as the United Kingdom, Norway, Dubai, India, China and Mexico. Selected international enquiries are considered case by case, depending on the destination, the event, the practical requirements and his availability. For visitors planning a trip, our guide to flights to Malta from the UK lists the routes.

Because Brian was born in Gozo and performs there regularly, he is a natural choice for an event on the sister island, and our Gozo guide covers the venues and landmarks. To book, tell him the event date, venue, occasion and audience, and he will recommend a format and tailor a proposal. Use the VisitMalta.co.uk enquiry form on this page and we will pass your message to Brian Rolè.

It helps to give plenty of detail when you write: the locality, the time of the performance, the number of guests and whether the event is a private party, a corporate function or a public show. Brian will discuss the practical points of the booking with you, from the space he needs to the format that fits.
