Fort Fitness is a Maltese gym group with clubs in Sliema, Mrieħel, St Julian's and, from October 2026, Mosta, all on one membership. This listing covers the Quad club at The Quad Central in the Birkirkara and Mrieħel area. Enquiries go through the VisitMalta.co.uk form on this page.
Fort Fitness is one of Malta's largest gym groups, bringing together four clubs under a single membership. Our listing is for its Quad club in the Mrieħel area of Birkirkara, in the middle of the island and an easy drive from Valletta, Sliema and Mdina. The group sits in our directory of gyms in Malta, and it suits both residents and visitors who want a choice of locations rather than a single gym.
Four clubs, one membership
The group counts more than 7,000 members and runs four sites. The flagship is Fort Cambridge in Sliema, on Level minus 2, covering 2,000 square metres and open since 2016. The Quad club in Quad Towers, Mrieħel, followed in 2021 and covers 1,000 square metres. St Julian's, based at Hugo's Boutique Hotel, opened in February 2026. A fourth club at 204 Constitution Street in Mosta is due to open in October 2026, with a sauna and ice baths among its features.
One membership opens every door, so a member based in Mrieħel can also train in Sliema or St Julian's. The group also runs a boxing academy, and the Sliema club has a 150 metre indoor running track. Training is available seven days a week. Each club offers strength and cardio equipment, functional zones and studios, and the equipment is top of the range. Sliema, St Julian's and Mrieħel are all areas in which visitors stay, so see our page on hotels in Sliema and St Julian's if you are choosing where to base yourself.
Classes, the app and booking
The group presents itself as a community rather than a conventional gym, with a motto of where champions train, and the boxing academy and the indoor track give serious athletes something to aim at as well as beginners. Classes run every day across the clubs. You book and pay in the Fort Fitness app, either with credits or by card, and you can cancel up to two hours beforehand to have your place returned as a credit. Classes marked as free for members cost nothing extra. The timetable can be filtered by club, so you can see what is on at Sliema, Quad or St Julian's before you travel.
The app also acts as your key. After choosing and paying for a membership online, the app is ready before you reach the club, and it opens the door. Memberships come in anytime and daytime versions, and can be paid upfront or monthly, though prices are not printed on the pages we hold and need to be requested.
Parking and the area
Two hours of parking are included with each visit, and several clubs offer free parking, a practical advantage in busy parts of the island. Mrieħel is a business and shopping district, so it works for anyone who lives or works nearby. Our Valletta guide and Mdina guide cover the two historic cities within a short drive, and our page on things to do in Malta has plenty to fill the rest of a day. A training week here can be as flexible as your plans: because the membership is shared across the clubs, a holiday split between Sliema and the centre of the island does not mean joining twice.
Planning a longer stay
If you are moving from the UK, the Malta relocation guide explains what to expect, and remote workers can read our digital nomad guide. The Malta weather guide and the guide to where to stay in Malta help you pick an area, and the best beaches in Malta are the natural reward after a hard session.
