Sup Yoga Malta is part of Yoga Malta, which runs stand up paddleboard yoga, guided paddle tours, studio and outdoor yoga classes and sunset sailing yoga from Ta' Xbiex, Manoel Island, Sliema and Msida. A 90 minute SUP yoga class meets on the Ta' Xbiex waterfront and suits complete beginners. Send your questions through the VisitMalta.co.uk enquiry form on this page and we will pass them to the team.

Sup Yoga Malta is the paddleboard side of Yoga Malta, a Maltese yoga school that mixes classical Hatha, Vinyasa, Ashtanga and Yin styles with time on the water. Its home waters are around Ta' Xbiex and Manoel Island, a short stretch of harbour opposite Valletta, and the classes are open to every level, so a first-time paddler can join without any experience of yoga or boards.

If you are comparing yoga studios in Malta for a holiday, it is an easy way to see the Grand Harbour skyline from a new angle. The same team also teaches land classes, meditation sessions, workshops and teacher training courses, so you can combine a morning on the board with an evening practice on the seafront.

SUP yoga on the water

The signature session is a 90 minute SUP yoga class. A certified teacher starts with the essentials of stand up paddleboarding: how to use the board, how to hold the paddle and the safety measures that go with it. The practice then begins slowly while you get used to the floating surface, builds into a more dynamic flow and finishes with restorative postures and a long final rest.

Boards are matched to each guest, so you are asked to give your weight in the notes when booking. The price covers an introductory lesson and briefing, the board and a life jacket. Bring a swimsuit, water, a hat, sunblock and friends. Cameras and waterproof phone cases are welcome at your own risk.

The meeting point is the Ta' Xbiex waterfront, in front of the Royal Malta Yacht Club, and you should arrive 15 minutes before the start. All paddleboards, paddles and masks are rental items, so guests pay for repair or replacement if they cause damage.

Guided paddle tours around the coast

For a longer outing there are three hour SUP tours, which are separate from the yoga classes and focus on coastline, caves and clear water. Tours listed on the timetable include the Blue Grotto at €60, Gnejna Bay at €60, and a sunrise paddle and mindfulness session at Sliema at €45. Other tour names include Coral Lagoon, Mistra Bay, Popeye Village and a Doggy SUP Adventure, where a dog can come along on the board.

Departures run in the early morning or the afternoon depending on the route, and the location can change with the weather. If you are building a wider itinerary, the Blue Grotto guide and the Popeye Village guide explain what else is nearby, and our things to do in Malta page has more ideas.

Yoga and meditation classes on land

Land classes run several times a day in a mix of settings: Manoel Island, Riviera beach, Sliema seafront and a studio in Msida. The styles include Hatha Vinyasa, Power Yoga, Yin Yang Yoga and a Yin Yoga journey, and teachers offer modifications so beginners and experienced students can share a class. Land classes on the current timetable cost €17 each, and the timetable lists the days and start times week by week.

Meditation sessions include breathwork and Osho Dynamic Meditation, and occasional workshops cover subjects such as arm balances, inversions and sound journeys. If you are staying near the water, our Valletta guide and Sliema hotel guide help you choose a base within easy reach of the classes.

Sunset sailing yoga

The sailing yoga cruise lasts four hours on a catamaran, sailing from Ta' Xbiex to the south or north of the island. The programme is a sunset sail, a swim, then a gentle yoga and meditation practice as the stars appear, followed by snacks and tea on the way back. Water, snacks and tea are included and alcohol is not allowed.

Bring your own mat or towel, a sweater for cooler moments, a swimsuit and a towel. The cruise leaves from Roland Marina, Pontoon D, on Marina Road in Ta' Xbiex, and the session is tailored for all levels.

Teacher training, booking and cancellations

Yoga Malta also trains teachers. Courses on the schedule include a 200 hour programme, Yin Yoga, aerial yoga, rocket yoga, a SUP yoga certification, hands-on adjustments and a foundational course in pranayama and meditation, which is priced at €200 with a €20 deposit.

For classes, cancelling at least 48 hours ahead earns store credit that can be used within a month. The team decides on bad weather cancellations at least three hours before the start and gives credit for a future class. Classes with four students or fewer may be cancelled with notice. To ask a question or request a booking, use the VisitMalta.co.uk enquiry form on this page and we will pass your message to the team.
