Yellow Rock Yoga Gozo is a yoga school run by two teachers who moved to Gozo from the Netherlands, with outdoor classes by the sea at Qbajjar Bay near Żebbuġ and indoor classes in Sannat. It offers group and private sessions, yoga safaris, retreats and Yoga Alliance teacher training. Enquiries go through the VisitMalta.co.uk form on this page.
Yellow Rock Yoga Gozo is a small, friendly yoga school on Malta's sister island, run by two teachers, Monique and Norbert, who moved from the Netherlands to Gozo and now call it home. Its motto is Relax, Recharge, Explore, and the classes follow it closely: most of them take place outdoors, by the sea, at the start of the day. Styles include Hatha Flow, Yin yoga, breathwork and meditation, and the teaching suits complete beginners as well as more experienced practitioners.
For a UK visitor the appeal is simple. You can drop into a morning class on a rocky shoreline with the Mediterranean in front of you, then spend the rest of the day on the island. The school also runs yoga safaris, one-day retreats, multi-day yoga, hiking and meditation retreats, private sessions and Yoga Alliance accredited teacher training. You can compare it with other places to practise in our directory of yoga studios in Malta and our meditation directory.
Who runs Yellow Rock Yoga
Monique has been visiting Gozo since 1993, when she first came on a diving course, and Norbert first set foot on the island in 2011. They kept returning, sometimes up to eight times a year, until they decided to make Gozo their home. In the years since, they have built up daily group classes, individual yoga, yoga holidays and one-day retreats, working with local professionals to make it all happen.
Monique teaches outdoor yoga, meditation and private classes, and focuses on the energetic side of practice. She has trained in Hatha, Chakra, Yin and Vinyasa yoga and meditation, and holds certification in pregnancy yoga, adaptive yoga, slow flow, Yoga Nidra, restorative yoga and Ayurveda. She is registered with Yoga Alliance as an E-RYT 500 and a continuing education provider, and the school holds an RYS-200 registration. Norbert is a Hatha yoga teacher with a background in physical education, registered as E-RYT 200, RYT-500 and a continuing education provider. Since 2019 he has led Hatha Flow by the Sea sessions at Qbajjar Bay, combining breathing, strength and flexibility, and he also guides tours that mix yoga, meditation and hiking.
Group classes by the sea, indoors and online
The weekly timetable is built around the shoreline. On Mondays and Thursdays there is a Yin and Flow class by the sea at Qbajjar from 7:30 to 8:45. On Wednesdays at 7:30 there is a Gentle Yoga class by the sea, on Fridays there is Hatha Flow by the sea at 7:30, and on Saturdays there is a 7:30 Hatha Flow class at Qbajjar. Mid-week at 17:30 there is an outdoor breathwork and meditation session at changing locations. Indoors, there are Hatha Flow classes in Sannat on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 18:00 to 19:00.
Online classes are available too, which is useful if you want to keep going after you fly home. A Hatha Flow session runs on Monday mornings and a Yin session on Wednesday mornings, both from 9:00 to 10:00. If bad weather rules out an outdoor class, it moves indoors or online, and the exact meeting point can change with the wind, so confirm when you book.
The 2026 rates are €12 for each outdoor or indoor group class and €225 for unlimited outdoor and indoor classes over three months. Online yoga costs €9 a class or 22.50 euros a month. Booking is essential for every in-person class, you need to reserve at least a day ahead, and payment is made in advance by link, after which your mat is secured. Bring your own mat or a large towel, water, sunscreen, a blanket and layers, and a cushion for Yin yoga. If you have no mat, one can be lent to you.
First-timers should not worry about experience. Monique and Norbert teach people at every level, and the Hatha Flow classes combine breathing, strength and flexibility at an easy pace, while Yin yoga holds poses for longer so the body can soften. The outdoor setting adds sea air and open sky, but also some wind and sun, so layers and water make the morning more comfortable. Arrive a few minutes early, unroll your mat, and settle in before the session starts.
Private sessions, safaris and short courses
If the group times do not suit, you can book a private class indoors, outdoors or online. Personal sessions take place at the studios in Sannat or Għasri, or anywhere on Gozo on request, and a small surcharge may apply depending on the location. A 75 minute personal session is €50 for one person or €75 for two, and five personal sessions for one person cost €200. Private online sessions are €35 for 60 minutes, or €150 for a package of five. The school can also teach a session for an event, and there is a beginners package that mixes online and personal guidance before you step into a first group class.
A yoga safari is a 90 minute session at a beautiful spot on the island, priced at €95 per person with transport, fruit and tea included. Short courses run for 10 hours, spread over five days or fewer, partly in the Għasri studio and partly outdoors by the sea. Topics include yoga for beginners, yoga for anxiety, an introduction to Yin yoga, meditation, pranayama (breathing techniques), yoga philosophy, chakra yoga, prenatal yoga and an introduction to Ayurveda. Each costs €395 and is paid when you book, with course material and a certificate of participation included, and registered Yoga Alliance teachers can claim continuing education credits.
Monique is a certified pregnancy yoga teacher, and prenatal and postnatal packages are available. These are yoga classes rather than medical care, so speak to your own midwife or doctor about what is right for you.
Retreats and teacher training
Yellow Rock Yoga runs yoga, hiking and meditation retreats all year round, and in these the teachers explore the whole island with you, often including hikes and mantra singing. If a week is too long, one-day retreats are available on other dates, and an Intentional Pause day retreat is run from time to time. Guests who want to build a longer stay around a retreat can use our Gozo guide to plan, and the hotels in Gozo page to choose somewhere to stay.
For people who want to teach, the school offers a Yoga Alliance accredited 200 hour Hatha Flow teacher training in Gozo, which Monique teaches four times a year. It also runs a Yin Yoga teacher training and a Meditation and Yoga Nidra teacher training several times a year, for teachers and advanced practitioners. Costs and dates for the trainings are not given on the main pages, so ask when you enquire.
Where to find the classes and what else to do
Outdoor classes are mainly held at Qbajjar Bay, to the left of Horizon Restaurant on Triq il-Qolla l-Bajda, right by the sea near Marsalforn on Gozo's north coast. Sessions also take place at Xwejni Beach, in front of Qbajjar Battery and at the Saltpans. Gozo is reached from the main island by ferry, so start with our flights to Malta guide and allow time for the crossing.
An early class leaves the day free. Our best beaches in Malta guide covers swimming spots, the Blue Lagoon guide explains day trips to Comino, and the Malta weather guide shows when mornings are warmest. Nearby, Apnea Total Malta teaches freediving, and Anaca Photography can photograph a retreat or a special occasion. More ideas are in our things to do in Malta guide.
How to book
The teachers check availability for each request and then send a payment link, and your place is confirmed once it is paid. They accept payment by card, and by other online payment services. They can arrange group classes, one-day retreats, private sessions, events and longer retreats. Use the VisitMalta.co.uk enquiry form on this page, tell us what you would like to book and the dates you will be on Gozo, and we will pass your message to Yellow Rock Yoga, who will reply to you directly.
